Summer Is Over But Flowers Still Are Blooming

Sadly, summer is over and fall is here. I do like fall though, and the chill in the air. Plus the colorful flowers are so beautiful this time of year. Before you know it, the trees will be bare and all of the leaves will fall to the ground. That is the way it is when you have four seasons though. I like spring, summer and fall....not so much winter. The roads are icy to drive on and it gets snowy and cold! Okay, enough of that complaining and back to the colorful flowers.

Lawnmower and Shattered Glass......Plus Flowers!

While I was to the city today today to get an allergy injection and do some grocery shopping, my husband mowed our lawn. It's been drier than usual here and actually the lawn hasn't been mowed in about a month. The gardens are drying up and some of the farmers' crops don't looks very good either.

Thankfully, Saturday we had about an inch and 4 tenths of much need rain. The ground and lawns just soaked it up like a sponge. One thing about it, is the weeds always grow, even when it doesn't rain. So our lawn had some weeds coming up with brown looking grass. The rain made the grass green up and it was time to mow the lawn to make it look better.

While I was gone my husband mowed the lawn and he was by our sliding glass door when he hit a small stone. He doesn't mow so it blows towards the door until he get farther away, but it didn't matter today. When I got home from the city he told me to look at the door and I asked what had happened.

The whole door is shattered from top to bottom and looks terrible. He then proceeded to tell me what had happened and said he had already called the glass repair company and it would cost $375 to replace it. There goes another bill! At least no one was hurt and he felt bad about it, I could tell.

Even though it's been very dry, some of my flowers look pretty good. I noticed the mums are starting to bud, which always reminds me of fall. I can't believe how fast the summer has gone and school is starting soon. Below are some of the flowers around my house. Can you believe 4 months from now it will be 10 days before Christmas! I don't even want to think about it!

The Daisies and Cosmos Are Starting!

As you might know, I really like flowers! My daisies have come out the last few days and are so pretty with the white petals and bright yellow middles.

I transplanted some of them from the back of our house to the front a few years ago. We still have some in the back but I like to see them when I go out the front door. They really spread the last couple of years and are so cheerful to look at.

The cosmos are starting to pop out also. There are different shades of them and they grow like weeds around here. I even have to pull some out because they get close to the edge of the sidewalk and when they get large they block the walkway. I didn't get a picture of the white ones, but there are the other shades below.

I planted them from seeds years ago and they just keep coming back every year from the dried seeds that drop off. My neighbor has a lot of flowers and she said I could dig some of her various plants that have spread. So, maybe I'll have some different types of flowers next year. That makes me pretty happy too!

We Have Some Flowers

It's been pretty dry around our area but today we had a nice rain which all the plants, crops, and flowers really enjoyed getting. The grass was getting brown in spots where there wasn't any shade and things weren't growing very well. So the rain was really needed. My flowers had raindrops on them when I went out to look at them. I just love flowers - don't you? They are so pretty to the eye and make me happy looking at them.

After the rain I took a few pictures of the flowers that are in bloom right now. Mostly roses and another type of perennial which a neighbor gave me a couple of years ago.

They are kind of unusual and are the purple colored ones shown below. I can't remember what the name of them are but they have spread - which I love about perennials. You don't have to plant them every year and they keep coming back.

I also have daisies that have buds on them and the cosmos are starting to grow taller also. I planted cosmos seeds many years ago and the seeds drop in the fall when they dry up. They keep coming back every year are very pretty colors.

Do you have any flowers? What type of flower is your favorite?

Signs of Spring! Finally!

Signs of Spring! Finally!

They are the earliest flower and the first signs of Spring to me is when these purple crocuses pop out of the ground! They are my favorite color....purple!

It is amazing how they can come out even when we still have cold weather here in Michigan. They are a sure promise that Winter is finally over.

I don't remember when I planted these flower bulbs but it must be many years ago when we first moved into our house. They never fail to show up, even among the dead leaves from last Fall among them.

The buds on my lilac bush are coming out also. I love lilacs of any color and the fragrance of them. My husband has been trimming all of our many trees. He's a tree man, if you ever heard of that. We've got over a dozen trees in our front yard that he planted when we moved here, about 18 years ago.

Before you know it we will have to start mowing lawn. We had some April showers yesterday and it melted a lot of the snow that was left in some areas that it was piled up. April showers bring May flowers, as they say!

Spring Thinking!

Spring Thinking!

I know we are in the middle of winter yet and it's cold and snowy outside but my thoughts have turned to Spring. Winter usually doesn't bother me very much because I'm not really an outdoor girl....but I was thinking of my flowers today and all the beautiful colors.

This Spring I hope to have more flowers and take lots of pictures. They are so easy to grow and give you lots of enjoyment just to look at them, every time you go outside! All of these flowers I planted myself from small plants. You can do it too, even if you have never done it before. All you have to do is have a small area where you want to plant some flowers.

More Flowers Are Blooming!

More Flowers Are Blooming!

Here are some of my beautiful lilies that just opened up in front of my house. They don't last long but sure are pretty while they last.  I planted them so many years ago that I don't remember doing it.  They are sure a delight to see when they come back again every year though.

Flowers are something I enjoy about summer because we don't see any in the winter here in Michigan.

I also have so many cosmos flowers that they grow like weeds around here.  In the spring I pulled hundreds of them which were close to the sidewalk.  The reason I did this is because they get so tall and then they fall over on the sidewalk.  They get really tall just about like sunflowers I would say.

The seeds fall to the ground when they dry up and they come back every year.  It all started from me buying a couple packages of seeds so many years ago.

Things Are Growing Around Here......Like Daisies

Things Are Growing Around Here.....Like Daisies

It's summer and things are growing around my house.  I transplanted some daisies from my backyard and put them in the front of the house last year and they really took off.  Here are some of the plants shown below.

Daisies I transplanted by the house getting ready to bloom.

Daisies with cosmos growing beside them.

A beautiful closeup of a daisy.

Daisies are so easy to grow.  I haven't done anything special to them since transplanting them last summer.  When I first transplanted them I get them watered though so they wouldn't dry up.  They really spread also.  Just think, these first started them from buying a package of seeds quite a few years ago.  Now that I've put them in the front of the house I see them more, every time I go in or out.

If you don't think you have a green thumb just try it.  You can start from seeds or buy a plant and dig a small hole, put the plant in, and cover the roots.  Keep it watered so it doesn't dry out.  It's not that hard and you will get beautiful results.  I really like perennials because you don't have to keep buying flowers every year.  More pictures will be coming of some of my other flowers.   Summer is so beautiful with colorful flowers.
