Go For A Walk And Feel Good

I like walking every day.  I started over a year ago and walk a little over two miles nearly every day. It's not a whole lot but it does help your body feel good.  I also feel like I have more energy.   My husband started walking after he retired so I decided to join him.  Now I sometimes go alone or with him.  At first I was really out of shape.  I didn't know if I could make it the whole way.  In the beginning I walked more slowly but now it takes me about 40 minutes to walk 2.2 miles.  I enjoy the outdoors and clearing my mind.  You notice little things, like squirrels climbing trees and scampering around, birds chirping, and sometimes you even find a lucky penny lying on the ground.   One time I had a dog run up to me but the owner was right after it.  There always seems to be dogs barking somewhere but are usually tied up or looking from a window in a house.  One time I was going for a walk and it started raining.  By the time I got home I was drenched!  So from now on if it looks like rain I take an umbrella or don't go at all.  Another time I was walking and saw a pickup run into a car.  You never know what you are going to see when you go for a walk!

I Love Spring But Sinus Infection Is No Fun

I get sinus infections every year, usually in the spring and fall.  Well, spring is here and I have one.  I have gotten them since I was in my twenties.  I remember the first time I got a sinus infection I didn't know what I had and was so miserable.  It is not like a cold and your whole body aches and your head is all plugged.  You are just so tired and drained out.  It doesn't go away in a few days like a cold either.  It takes weeks to go away.  I couldn't get into my allergist so I went to a walk in clinic on Friday.  I got a shot and antibiotics so hopefully it will start helping soon.  It's no fun at all!  I'm sure a lot of you get this too and know what I'm talking about.

Ironing Jeans Must Be A Senior Citizen Thing

Have you ever noticed older people wearing jeans and you can see the crease from ironing them.   My mom and her friend Frank iron their jeans (and just about everything). Frank even starches them.  My mom is 83 years old and always has her ironing board set up.  It is kind of funny because I don't iron anything.  Well, occasionally I iron a shirt or something that really needs it, but it is rare.  I sold my ironing board at my garage sale a few years ago because it was just in the way.  I just take my clothes out of the dryer and hang them up and they look fine.

Yesterday I took mom to the doctor and noticed an elderly person that had their jeans pressed.  I pointed it out to mom and she laughed.   I guess it's a senior citizen thing.

To Get Another Kitten Or Not

We have had lots of cats throughout the years.  I have always loved kittens and cats.  My daughter also loves cats.  Our last pet cat we had was named Mouse and was a wonderful cat we had for ten years.  She was a friendly cat and always welcomed my husband when he came home from work.  As everyone knows that has a pet, they become part of the family.   Sadly Mouse got cancer and passed away in 2008 and it was hard to lose her.

Lately my daughter has been mentioning that she would like to get another kitten.  She is the one that picked out Mouse when she was a kitten.  The problem is that she is allergic to cats, along with me and one of my sons.  We were all tested by an allergist.  When they go to my sister's house who has a cat and play with it, they get allergic reactions like a stuffy nose and watery eyes.  So I don't know if it really would be a good idea to get another cat.  They are so cute though!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

2 cups diced or shredded cooked chicken (I used two larger cans of chicken)
1/3 cup hot pepper sauce (more or less depending how hot you like it)
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tbsp. finely chopped onions (optional)
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 cup crumbed blue cheese

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Mix chicken with hot pepper sauce in medium bowl.  Stir in remaining ingredients, except blue cheese.  Put into medium casserole dish.  Then sprinkle with blue cheese.  Bake about 20 minutes or until bubbling.  Serve with your favorite vegetables or nacho chips.  We didn't have blue cheese in this picture but sprinkled parmesan cheese on top.  It was also good like this.

I saw this recipe on the Hellmann's website.  They had green onions for the onions.

A Day With My Daughter At College And Shopping For Shower Gift

I had a nice day with my daughter today.  She had to go to college to work on an art project she was doing.  Karissa commutes to college and lives at home.  It was an interesting day for me.  We also went to the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum on campus.  There were sculptures from a man named Marshall Fredericks, who was an awesome artist!   He made sculptures of Henry Ford, and so many other great sculptures.

Then we went shopping for a gift for her friend's bridal shower on Sunday.  We finally found a nice bookshelf she wanted and another shelf  she was registered for.  After that we went back to the campus and carried her sculpture across the campus to another building to display.  In between shopping and carrying the sculpture across the campus we went out to eat.  On the way home we got ingredients for her to make some food for the shower.  She's making cucumber sandwiches and biscotti.   It's going to be a tea party shower.

On the way home my feet were sore but it was a great day being with my daughter!

Survival At The Dentist

I had a tooth filled today and have been dreading it for some time now because I get dental anxiety.  I am so proud to say I did great after I told them I had anxiety.  They asked me what they could do to help me and I told them I liked it when they just talked while they were working on my teeth.  It didn't take long and it didn't hurt at all.  I just thought about something else and let them talk, ha, ha.  I've been grinding my teeth while I sleep also so they suggested a mouth guard.  That will probably be my next step.  I sure don't want to wear my teeth away.

Are You A Sleeper Or Early Riser?

Do you know people who don't require many hours of sleep?  I know a woman I used to work with who only slept about 4 hours a night and looked like she got a full night's rest.  She said that was all she required.  I wish I didn't need much sleep like that.   If I don't get enough sleep I don't feel right and am tired all day.  I need at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night.  Of course I didn't get much sleep when my twin sons and daughter were babies.  My twin sons were born 12 days after my daughter's second birthday.  I was always tired then and looked it!  They didn't take naps.  Well, maybe a half hour at the most.  That seems like yesterday and now they are all grown up and going to college.  Now they like to sleep in but when they were babies they didn't :)

Cucumber Sandwiches For A Tea Party Bridal Shower

Has any one ever had cucumber sandwiches before?  I have heard of them but never have tasted any before.  My daughter volunteered to make them for a tea party bridal shower for her friend.  I have looked on line and have found different recipes.  Some of them have cream cheese and dill for ingredients.  I have found some recipes that say to put vinegar on the slices and slice the cucumbers very thin.  I have also saw a recipe to take the seeds out of them or use English or seedless cucumbers.  What is the best bread to use?  I wonder if anyone would know a great recipe we could use.  She would like them to look nice and taste good too!
