I Lost Some Junk! @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

I Lost Some Junk! @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

Being a member of Social Insiders, I participated in the Summer Blogging Challenge 2016. The last week was "Lose The Junk"! Well, I have lot of rooms to clean but decided that one of my cabinets needed a little cleaning out to begin with.

Okay, I'll blame my husband for keeping lots of stuff that we really don't need. He's not one to throw stuff out very often but sometimes you really need to go through what you have.

This is a cabinet that we keep paper, pens, markers, tape and lots of other items. I opened the cabinet doors and this is what I saw in the above picture. Nothing in it's place. Tape here and there, and stuff just strewn around. I'm not sure why hubby put a flashlight in here, but oh well.

First I took everything out of the cabinet and threw away some things that we didn't need. There was even a price tag from somebody's clothes in there, used envelopes, and worn out pens. Luckily, the trash man was coming so I hurried and got another bag of junk out before he came to our house.

I organized everything and will have to do a better job some other time, but it does look a little better than before. Above and below are the after pictures of the cabinet.

I have baskets with markers and crayons in and some plastic containers which I labeled with pens, pencils, tape, and other items. It got me in the cleaning mood, so now I'm heading for my kitchen cabinets!

Let's Get Crafty - With A Snowman @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

Let's Get Crafty - With A Snowman @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

Being a Social Insider I am participating in the Social Insiders Summer Blogging Challenge. One of the challenges was "Let's Get Crafty". Pinterest has lots of crafts projects that I would like to try, although the craft I made is one that a 4-H leader told me about.

Since the holidays are coming up (yes, sooner than you think), here is a neat snowman that will brighten your day! It's made of 4 regular soup cans, a small black plastic plate, an empty frosting container with the lid, a couple of twigs, white paint, black paint, orange paint, a piece of cloth, white duct tape, glue and a couple of decorations to decorate your snowman's arms.

All you do is paint the soup cans white and let dry. Then paint a face on one of the cans, however you like. For the "carrot" nose I used orange paint and used black paint to draw the eyes, eyebrows, and black dots for the mouth. I also painted a snowflake in each of the eyes after the black paint had dried. To make some rosy cheeks, I lightly dabbed a spot with some orange paint.

After that I taped the cans together with white duct tape, one on top of the other. You have to drill a couple of holes on each side of the second can to glue the stick arms in. Paint the empty frosting container black and glue it on top of the plastic plate. Then glue the whole thing on top for the snowman's hat. Also, you can make black "buttons" on the snowman by dipping a round sponge brush in black paint and pressing it on the middle of the bottom two cans.

Last of all, I decorated the snowman with a piece of cloth for the scarf, hung a little broom on his twig arm, and attached a cute little bird. I'm not a crafty person, but making this snowman is so easy that even I can do it!

Relax With A Great Book! @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

I'm taking part of the Social Insiders Summer Blogging Challenge and one of the challenges is called "Relaxing With A Great Book".

The first book I could think of was the one I read every night before I go to sleep. I'm a Christian and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in our little town. My mom and dad sent my sisters and brother to the Lutheran parochial school, which goes up to the 8th grade. When our children were school age, my husband and I sent them to the same school. We had religion class and had to memorize bible verses and also had a religion workbook. Along with our textbooks, every student had a bible in their desks.

The bible above isn't the one from my school days, although I still have that one. This is a Women's Devotional Bible which I acquired quite a few years ago. It is the complete bible with the old and new testament. Also included occasionally are stories which were written by women of faith.

I have my bible setting right by my bed and usually read a few pages or more before going to sleep. Right now I'm in Psalms which has includes some beautiful scripture which was mostly written by King David. There are 150 chapters in Psalms and you can find much emotion in the verses, such as joy and love, depression and grief.

A couple of years ago the 1st or 2nd grade class at the school made bookmarks and handed them out at our church. It's the bookmark I've been using and has the names of the kids and teacher on it. I've read the entire bible a couple of times and the pages are getting a little stained and worn (I have a bad habit of snacking in bed when I'm reading) My bible is also taped on the spine, but still is my favorite book to read.

What Is One Of My Favorite Things @SocialInsiders #SocialSummer

Being a Social Insider I'm taking part of the Summer Blogging Challenge 2016. This week I'm supposed to tell about one of my favorite things. Only thing is I couldn't narrow it down to one so will talk about not one but two of my favorite things that I can't live without right now. Summer has been hotter than usual with temperatures in the 90's and the first things I thought of were my sandals (flip flops) and tank tops.

I don't wear shoes or socks all summer when it's hot because wearing them does make me so much more warm. It makes me about 10 degrees hotter or more I would have to guess. My husband is just the opposite and can't stand wearing flip flops or sandals at all. I've asked him why he doesn't get any and he told me he doesn't like the feel of them. I don't get it, they feel comfortable to me - and so much cooler on your feet.

Since I have plantar fasciitis (heel spurs) on both feet I usually get special sandals from a company called Spenco. They have added support for plantar fasciitis. If you haven't heard of plantar fasciitis it can be pretty painful. Sometimes, I just wear regular ones if I don't have to do much walking.

Tank tops are the second favorite thing. Below are a couple that I have in my closet.

They are cooler to wear than a t-shirt and you don't have anything covering your arms.

There isn't a particular brand that I wear, just something that fits and that I like. I wear them all summer and especially love my purple colored ones (since that's my favorite color).

So there you have it! What's one of your favorite things?
