Summer Is For Family Gatherings
Yesterday was a rather busy day. First I had a doctor's appointment (which takes 45 minutes to drive there). Then it took about an an hour and a half in the doctor's office (mostly for waiting). Isn't that awful how long doctors make you wait. I took my mother along because from there we drove about 40 minutes to my only living aunt's house for a small family gathering of relatives. Some of my cousins from different parts of the state met at my aunt's house. My mom is the oldest sister to my aunt and they are the only 2 siblings left. The whole group was going to a restaurant to eat and waited for us for quite awhile but by the time we got to the restaurant the waitress said they had left just ten minutes before. I don't blame them because we didn't know how long it would be at the doctor appointment and they arrived earlier in the morning to visit.
Anyways, then we drove to my aunt's house not too far from the restaurant and the group was sitting outside visiting. She lives around a wooded area and it was a pleasant day, not too hot with a nice breeze. It was nice to catch up and just be with family. We stayed a few hours and were the last ones to leave since we got there so late. Since everyone else had been there earlier, they were ready to head back home before us.
Needless to say, my mother and I were hungry because we missed lunch and so we stopped at my favorite restaurant (The Cracker Barrel) on the way back home. I didn't mind that at all since I would rather eat there anyways. Then we went to Meier and did some grocery shopping for some things I needed after that. By the time we got home it was nearly 9:00 at night. Mom wanted to get home so she could watch some of the "The Bachelorette". She loves watching that show and even wanted to hurry in the restaurant so she wouldn't miss it. I took her groceries in her house and walked home (she lives 2 houses from me). So it was a pretty busy day. We made it back home safely and it was nice spending time with our relatives!

Happiness Doesn't Mean Having A Lot Of Material Things To Me
The older I get I've found out that material things do not bring happiness. I would like to have a new car but we always get used ones. Hey, as long as we get where we want to, that's the main thing. It would be nice to have new furniture....my recliner is getting rather worn. Our couch has some seen some better days.
It would be nice to go on vacations to far away places but I am content not to.
We do have one thing and that is happiness. My family is thankfully healthy and we have enough food to eat and so far enough to pay our bills. I'm happy to have a roof over my head, a place to lay my head at night and a great country to live where we are free.
The older I get your view changes on things. I am happy to have a great husband who has provided for the family and let me be a homemaker. It's not the same for most families but this has been our family. We've been married 29 years this May. We've had problems like everyone, but I'm happy for the little things more these days. Life goes by so fast so I'm thankful for each day.
I'm content to have not as much as some other people. We live within our means and don't over spend . I hope some day my children will have good memories of their childhood and make them smile. I think that's what life is about. Every one just wants to be happy.

Movies Are A Staple In Our House
If you would happen to be at our house sometime, you might see a member of the family watching a movie in their spare time. You might say we are movie people and love to watch movies. It's in the genes I would say.
My twin sons are going to college for Digital Video Production. They have lots of dvds and blu-rays that they get with their spare money and like all kinds of movies, whether it be drama, comedy, or whatever. Hopefully some day they will get a job with their college education. Maybe they will work in Hollywood.....who knows! The boys also like to be in movies too and make their own videos for you tube.
My daughter is finishing college this Spring and will be getting a double major in Art and Graphic Design. She worked for a couple of years at Walmart and saved her money and she is going to Italy in May for a month for her last two classes to study abroad. She loves movies also, by the way, and knows a lot about all types of movies. She even knows facts and trivia going back to the silent era.
.
Now, where do my kids get this interest movies, you might ask? I think they get some of it from me. I love old classic movies. My favorite channel is TCM and I'm usually watching a movie at night. I don't know what it is but it is so relaxing and great entertainment for me. I just get my bowl of popcorn and a glass of iced tea and am all set!
So, there you have it! We are a movie family and it's something we all have in common. Good clean fun!

Busyness
Everyone seems to be busy these days. With all of our modern conveniences you would think that we would be less busy and have more leisure time but that doesn't seem the case. People are always rushing around and it's a never ending circle with cell phones, computers, dishwashers, microwaves and all the modern technology.
Have you ever wondered what our forefathers would think of the way we live these days. They didn't have any of the modern conveniences and I think they had more time to be with family and friends than we do these days.
People these days are rushing here and there and going nowhere it seems. When did this all happen? Everything is fast and instant nowadays. People want a quick fix to their problems too. Instead of trying to resolve problems in their marriage some quickly get a divorce. Kids grow up without parents to guide them and then they get into trouble. We wonder why the world is in the shape it's in. Maybe we should get back to the basics and try to slow down a bit. That's just my opinion. What's your thought?
