Friends For Life

Friends For Life

It seems like when you get married you get busy raising a family and working. Times goes by and you don't get to see friends as much. When I was growing up my parents were friends with a couple and my sister and I were friends with their daughters....Linda and Lois. We used to stay overnight at each other's house in the summer and during Christmas vacations.

Those were the good old days when life was carefree and nobody had any worries. We used to put up a tent outside in the summer and sleep overnight in it. That was the time before modern technology and when kids played outdoors, made mud pies, rode bikes and just plain had fun. We used to get together every year and walk to the town carnival. I remember one year it rained and we walked in the rain to the carnival. It was disappointing that all the rides were not running because of the rain, but we still had fun!

Recently I have gotten in touch with my friend Linda. We really haven't seen each other very much over the years. Like I said earlier, you just get busy with life. She doesn't really live that far away, about 30 miles from my home. Her husband passed away several years ago and Linda's daughter lives with her. I had gone to her house a couple of times but she wasn't home. So today I called and asked her what she was doing and if she was busy and if she wanted some company. I asked her if maybe she would like to out for lunch also.

Linda said it sounded good, and I told her I would be there in about an hour and a half. When I arrived we sat and talked for quite awhile. It was so nice to visit and get together again. After we visited for about an hour we went to the Cracker Barrel restaurant for lunch and had a nice lunch sitting by the fireplace. There was more visiting and a lot of laughing. That's one thing we both like to do is laugh, which makes you feel so good.

After lunch, we stopped by the credit union where my sister JoAnn works and surprised her. Linda said she had not seen JoAnn for about 10 years. We walked in the credit union and stood there for a minute and I spied JoAnn in her office talking to a co-worker. She looked up and took a double-take, then came out and was really surprised and excited to see us there. She knew Linda right away and we went to her office and had a nice little visit, catching up with family news.

Afterwards, we drove back to Linda's home and talked some more. It was a good day and it felt great to get together with an old friend. Like they say, some friends are friends for life!

  1. What a wonderful thing to be able to do! It's so neat to still be friends with someone you've known almost your whole life. I have friends I've kept up with on Facebook, but haven't been able to get together with them because they live far away. I hope to be able to see them again someday.
