Eating (Or Not) At A Kitchen Table
Does your family eat together at the table? My family usually only eats at a table for holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas when there is an extended family dinner. When I was growing up we all sat at the kitchen table to eat all our meals. We wouldn't have thought about watching television and eating. It wasn't done then I guess. Now my family (me included) sits wherever they want. We have a small house so it's not like we're far from each other. Our table is kind of like the place where the kids put their papers or stuff from school (college). I know it is better to sit together at the table and have your meals but it just doesn't happen here. How about at your house?

We use to try to do that, but then everything is just do chaotic that it is just easier for us to leave the food in the kitchen and fix our plates and go sit and eat somewhere else. Truthfully we live in a small apartment and we normally all eat in the living room in front of the tv watching something we all like and can talk about together. My daughter and I have the "how was your day? and what did you do today?" talks while I'm driving home from school and she and her dad have those talks while they are walking the dogs once he comes home from work. He and I talk by text throughout the whole day, and then once the kids are in bed we crawl in bed and talk then too. If we didn't have all those talks I might insist on eating at the table.
ReplyDeleteWe always sit at the table for dinner without any television or anything like that. My kids are still young (7, 5, and 21 months) and we're hoping that this is something they will carry on when they have their own families. We sit and talk about our days and how everything went. The kids love it because it gives them a time a share their thoughts and us a chance to actually listen to them. My husband and I both grew up in a house where we didn't have family dinners except on special occasions and we knew we wanted it to be different when we had kids.
ReplyDeleteGloria, growing up in Brazil we always ate our meals at the kitchen table, lunch and dinner. Always. We still do dinners at the kitchen table, and I am miffed when the kids get up before we are all finished (although, sometimes, I am the one who excuses them so we can finish dinner in peace). I hope they keep this tradition... Thanks for following me from MBC and I am your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteWe always ate dinner at the dinner table growing up and I am keeping the tradition alive in my house. My children are still young (7, 6, 4 and 2) and I am hoping that things don't change too much as they grow older.
ReplyDeleteOur apartment is so tiny we don't have space for a dining room table. We sit on the floor around our 'coffee table,' which is actually an IKEA Lack side table. It's cramped and uncomfortable, but for now it's home. I found you through MMM Blog Hop, thanks for the read! I'm looking forward to reading more posts!
ReplyDeleteYes, we eat at the table. I don't remember doing this often when I was growing up and I want to change that for my children. I think it's important and my son LOVES to sit with daddy at dinner. I swear it's one of his favorite times of the day.
