Since Valentine's Day is today I  thought it would be fun to look up some trivia about the holiday. I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day and maybe gets a nice card, flowers or candy if you have someone special in your life.

The oldest valentine that still survives is from the 15th century which was written by Charles (Duke of Orleans to his wife).

Approximately 190 million Valentine's Day cards are sent in the United States each year.

The average amount a person spends on Valentine's Day is $131.

People started giving gifts in addition to the practice of exchanging Valentine's Day cards in the second half of the 20th century.

In Norfolk, England they have a character who leaves presents and sweets on the back door of houses. They call him Jack Valentine.

Valentine's Day is not a public holiday in any country, although it is celebrated in many regions around the world.

The first valentines that were mass produced were sold after 1847 and made of embossed paper lace.

A legend about Valentine's Day is that in the Middle Ages, people believed that birds paired in mid February and this is how the romance of Valentine's Day started.

There is a city named Valentine in Nebraska. Also there is a town called Valentine in Texas.
